What We Do

PCLC is a non-profit organization that
provides NO-COST tutoring services to adults for:

  • READING
  • GED/HiSET TEST PREP
  • MATH
  • ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE

PCLC tutors love getting to know their learners and helping to facilitate goals unique to each individual.
Tutors have flexible schedules to accommodate each learner’s situation.

More than 43 million adults in the United States cannot read, write, or do basic math above a third-grade level.

OUR VOLUNTEERS TUTORS

Come from different backgrounds and areas of expertise but all share a love for learning and helping others meet their Literacy goals. PCLC provides tutors with study spaces, materials, and equipment relevant to the needs of each Learner.

OUR LEARNERS

Are adults motivated to improve their Literacy and achieve their unique personal goals. Learners are matched with Tutors to accommodate their specific needs. Learners also have access to our library of study materials to use at home.

PROGRAM HISTORY

Pontotoc County Literacy Coalition, is a non-profit operating

solely on Grants and Donations that was established in 1984 through a program funded by the Oklahoma Department of Libraries called, “Oklahoma, Do You Read Me?” The program was created to address the need for enhanced Literacy skills in Pontotoc County and surrounding areas. The program is currently governed by

a Board of Directors who follow a set of by-laws that are periodically reviewed and revised to stay current with the immediate needs of the community.
