Tutors love getting to know their Learners and helping to facilitate goals unique to each individual. Tutors have flexible schedules to accommodate each Learner’s situation.
More than 43 million adults in the United States cannot read, write, or do basic math above a third-grade level.
History of the Program
Pontotoc County Literacy Coalition, a non-profit entity operating solely on Grants and Donations, was established in 1984 through a program funded by the Oklahoma Department of Libraries called, “Oklahoma, Do You Read Me?” to address the need for enhanced Literacy skills in Pontotoc County and surrounding areas. The program is currently governed by a Board of Directors who follow a set of by-laws that are periodically reviewed and revised to stay current with the immediate needs of the community.
Are adults motivated to improve their Literacy and achieve their unique personal goals. Learners are matched with Tutors to accommodate their specific needs. Learners also have access to our library of study materials to use at home.

English Language Learners
The U.S. has the world’s largest immigrant population, holding one in five of the world’s immigrants.
Among immigrants only half (53%) are proficient English speakers.
Workers who have less education than a high school diploma have the lowest median weekly earnings ($592), three times less than the highest level of education.
Incarcerated individuals who participate in correctional education programs are 43% less likely to recidivate than inmates who do not.
Let’s work together.
